Chlamydia
Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted bacterial infections in England. Chlamydia testing has changed, it is now routinely offered to 15-24 year old women and other people with a vagina, including transgender men and gender fluid and non-binary people assigned female at birth, even if you have no symptoms. This is because women and other people with a vagina, including transgender men and gender fluid and non-binary people assigned female at birth are at greatest risk of long term harm from an undetected/untreated chlamydia infection. For more information please see the GOV.UK website and the National Chlamydia Screening Programme Leaflet.
Gonorrhoea and National Chlamydia Screening Programme
The infection rates of Gonorrhoea in young people are also high, this is why we are testing all samples for both Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea. If left untreated Gonorrhoea can cause serious long-term complications for men, women and other people with a vagina, including transgender men and gender fluid and non-binary people assigned female at birth – one of which can result in infertility.
